Empowering India's marginalised children

A grandmother’s commitment

A grandmother’s commitment

Lalitha, loves to come to school and enjoys the company of her teachers and friends.  All this was  possible because of her determined grandmother who was committed to seeing her granddaughter stand on her own feet.

When Lalitha was 1 year old, she lost her father and mother.  Her grandmother decided to take care of her and when she was five years old, moved to Bangalore and started to work as a house maid.  Lalitha was studying at a local school.  She hardly made any academic progress and this was a matter of concern for her grandmother.  On hearing about the YuvaLok Vidya Vahini School, she got Lalitha admitted and spoke to the teachers about her background.  The teachers saw Lalitha, now in Std 2, as a very smart girl who could grasp her lessons well.  She was given personal attention and in a couple of months was at par with the other children. Mrs. Beulah Rajshekhar, Co-founder YuvaLok and Project Co-ordinator says “Lalitha is a very bright student and loves to come to school.  She takes part in all the activities and is a leader in the making”.
