When we first visited Bangalore in 1994, Avril began working and helping the teachers and children. There were then about thirty boys and girls. Each year from that time, we visited India and Avril with her long experience in education was able to help in different ways. We began to love and treasure each child for what they were. To see them grown up, working and some of them married with their own children, when we met them at the opening of the new school building in December, was amazing. The plan at that time was to help some of the children with academic potential, to attend local schools. So we returned home and recruited interested people from near and far to sponsor a child through their educational life. £125.00 a year paid for a child’s education, books, two sets of uniform and their food! There were about forty sponsors. Each child received a small Christmas present. Many letters were exchanged and many bonds of love formed. Paddock Wood Baptist Church, where we then attended, were very faithful in their giving and still are. Some young people have also been sponsored through their college courses which have enabled them to obtain good jobs. Gradually over the years YuvaLok has grown and developed and become a credible institution, recognised by the government. So now each child can receive their education and support through this school. There is now no need for individual support but many faithful people are still giving annually to help this wonderful project. God is a faithful and great God who continues to bless all who work and learn here.
