The remote area of Bhadravathi in the Shivamogga district of Karnataka is now within the reach of YuvaLok Foundation and this school runs in partnership with us.
Some of these students belong to the Gypsy community called ‘Hakki Pikki’ (a semi-nomadic tribe) and are from poor backgrounds. The Hakki Pikki are a semi-nomadic tribe that has travelled and lived in various parts of the country over the past few decades. As a part of the ‘rehabilitation drive’ by the Government of Karnataka in the 1950s and 60s, they were ordered out of their forest abodes and brought into the edges of the cities like Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hassan, etc. For them, school existed only in stories and fairy tales but now they are living their dreams. YuvaLok’s mission to transform lives through education and nutrition is rapidly changing the outlook of the entire area of Bhadravathi in Karnataka.
